Waste refers to discarded materials that are no longer useful. If not properly managed, waste can have significant negative impacts on the environment. Dili, as the capital city of Timor-Leste, has a population of 277,488, accounting for 26.9% of the country’s total population. The high volume of waste generated daily by the population contributes significantly to pollution. With support from the Youth Climate Justice Fund, G-SIG employs GIS tools and the Ushahidi platform to map and monitor waste disposal sites across the municipality of Dili. This initiative aims to support the government and key decision-makers in developing effective waste management strategies while also raising public awareness on proper waste disposal practices. This project is open to public participation. Individuals interested in contributing may report relevant information or concerns regarding waste management by submitting data through the “Add Post” button.
