Support us as we create maps to reduce natural disaster risks, address climate change, and tackle environmental issues in Timor-Leste.
Geospatial data is crucial in various areas, including disaster management, education, health, biodiversity, and environmental issues.
Digital mapping using open-source platforms serves as an excellent alternative for humanitarian work in Timor-Leste.
Development of Geoscience Activities
We are aware that geological/geoscience is a relatively new science in the country of Timor-Leste, especially in the education sector starting from basic education, secondary education, and up to higher education. G-SIG, along with programs such as courses, outreach, and research, aims to develop this science in Timor-Leste starting from the national level to rural areas. This is achieved by imparting knowledge to students about geological and geographical sciences, petroleum, and other related fields, providing them with training, conducting research, and engaging in practical fieldwork.
Development of Geographic Information System
G SIG is strongly committed to enhancing its resources in the field of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to develop a platform for Timor Leste. We are aware that mapping activities are crucial for addressing various situations related to environmental risks, climate change, natural resources, agriculture, education, health, and Biodiversity. This platform aims to contribute significantly in informed decision-making and planning in Timor-Leste.
Developing Free Open-Source Software for Geospatial (FOSS4G)
G SIG is aware that geospatial data in Timor-Leste presents significant challenges, limiting academics, relevant institutions, and researchers from accessing accurate and update data, especially concerning natural disasters, education, health, and more. G-SIG is committed to developing accessible platforms for geospatial data in Timor-Leste through community-based initiatives such as OpenStreetMap, QGIS, and others. This is aimed at ensuring access to updated and credible information from the community’s knowledge. We aim to maintain detailed and up-to-date data for mapping Timor-Leste, including infrastructure data, land use, land cover, special site and etc.
