WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT US

What They Say

I am highly pleased and deeply appreciate G-SIG’s initiative in advancing GIS development in Timor-Leste. Engaging in mapping and digitizing data into maps has been a profound motivation for me, as it enables me to contribute valuable data and information that serve as a critical foundation for addressing social challenges and natural disasters affecting our communities in Timor-Leste. This is particularly relevant in responding to key issues such as Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change adaptation. GIS plays a crucial role in the management of natural resources and serves as an essential tool for mapping natural disasters. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to learn and apply these skills from G-SIG

I am truly excited and deeply grateful for the opportunity to participate in the training provided by G-SIG. This training has allowed me to gain valuable knowledge about the OpenStreetMap platform, which is highly relevant to the field of Civil Engineering. Through this program, I have developed a greater understanding of the critical role OpenStreetMap plays in national development, particularly in relation to geospatial data, infrastructure mapping, land use, and land cover analysis. Additionally, I take great pride in having acquired the skills to access OpenStreetMap, conduct mapping, and contribute essential information using advanced mapping tools such as Java OpenStreetMap and Tasking Manager. These tools enable me to provide accurate, up-to-date, and real-time geospatial data that support informed decision-making for Timor-Leste.

Working with G-SIG has been an invaluable experience that has opened many opportunities for me. Through field mapping, I have learned essential skills, including how to use GIS mobile applications and conduct vulnerability assessments in disaster-prone areas, knowledge that greatly benefit my future career. Collaborating with G-SIG has also given me the opportunity to engage directly with communities, listen to their concerns about natural disasters and climate change, and understand the impacts these issues have on their lives. This experience has deeply motivated me to further contribute to this field. The opportunities provided by G-SIG have been instrumental in helping me apply GIS technology to address environmental issues effectively.
