OUR HISTORY

WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT US

2021 - 2022

The idea to establish this association came from Ponciano da Costa de Jesus list as first person start this idea when Timor Leste was affected by significant cyclones in 2020 and 2021. This inspiration stemmed from research conducted by the Department of Geology and Petroleum UNTL, funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) related to this flood in the Dili area. However, the presentation of this idea to colleagues did not proceed due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation in Timor-Leste at that time.

2022 - 2023

On March 14, 2022, six founding members, Ponciano, Isabel, Noenio, Henny, Bendito, and Feliza, convened an official meeting at the Polytechnic in Hera to formally establish the Group. This Geology Study association was founded to disseminate information and advance knowledge in the fields of geological sciences and natural disaster management in Timor-Leste.

2023

At the beginning of 2023, six additional members Julmira, Evaristo, Baltazar, Januario, Junaida, and Bendita joined as Co Founders to facilitate the official establishment and legal registration of the association through Notary Department Registration under the of the Ministry of Justice. During the registration process, the association made changes to its name, transitioning to the Geographic Information System Group Association. This shift reflected a broader focus, not only on geoscience and natural disasters but also on the development of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology in the field of geoscience.
